Church of the Rock

Immediate Crisis Response Procedures

LOCKDOWN

Lockdown means that all children and adults remain in their assigned classroom and/or in the main sanctuary. The use of lockdown procedure should occur when emergency situation exists somewhere else within the church or in the immediate outside area of the church, where the presence of children and adults would place them in danger. Any person may call a lockdown. The church should designate a group of people to call 911.

MODIFIED LOCKDOWN

If a modified lockdown is called, ALL doors to the church are locked, including classroom doors and main door. Teachers are notified of modified lockdown. The lockdown signal will NOT be given. Teachers and children follow routine, however they remain on alert and avoid windows.

LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES

  • Lockdown signal (Air Horn and/or Lockdown) is given by person who notices the need and calls 911.
  • Teachers clear hallways near their room or area. Standing in the doorway, gather in as many children within eyesight as possible.
  • Close and lock classroom doors.
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Gather children in a safe location in the room. Asses directions of danger, if possible. Avoid windows, doors, and outer walls.
  • Use basic "duck and cover" techniques.
  • Take attendance of students in your room.
  • Be prepared to wait. Remain calm and reassuring. Do not speculate about the cause of the lockdown.
  • Stay alert and ready to move if directed so.

Evacuate only if directed to do so by police or church officials, unless the situation warrants immediate movement.

If the fire alarm goes off during a lockdown, it is to be ignored unless fire danger is imminent.

EVACUATION PROCEDURES

Evacuation means that all children and adults exit the building and move to designated safe areas (Parsonage and Barn). Relocation means moving children and adults from evacuation areas to identified relocation centers (Collins-Perley Sports Complex).

MODIFIED EVACUATION

If a modified evacuation is called, teachers and adults will be notified of modified evacuation. Evacuation signal will NOT be given. Teachers, adults, and children will be directed to designated areas outside the church (Courtyard, Sidewalk, Parking Lot).

EVACUATION PROCEDURES

  • Evacuation signal (Fire Alarm) is given.
  • Turn off lights.
  • If fire or other threat, close doors. If bomb threat, leave classroom doors open.
  • All children and adults travel to designated safe areas.
  • Take attendance and report any missing children to church officials (Pastors/Elders).
  • Remain with class. Be prepared to wait. Remain calm and reassuring. Do not speculate about the cause of the evacuation.
  • If given the order of relocate, follow the directive calmly and as a group.

SERIOUS INJURY OR ILLNESS

  • Notify church officials.
